dear Friends,
my time with Facebook and Instagram is coming to a close on Monday, February 17—at least for the next several months. I have no illusions that my exit will have any broad impact; my body and spirit are simply telling me this is what I need.
post-election two things had a significant impact on me. one was a podcast reminding me I need to lean even further into the knowledge, strategies, and tactics of marginalized minority communities that have long known what one needs to do to create safe community under a government hostile to your very existence.
another was a simple Facebook popup ad featuring Mark Zuckerberg and his wife; an American flag centered behind them as they lavished praise on the new administration at the inauguration.
No.
I won’t continue coming to a place that I thought was intended to coalesce, organize, build coalition but instead feels for me foundationally misaligned value-wise. one that causes real world harm and ongoing somatic responses that are a vampiric energy suck I can’t afford.
one of my primary intentions this year is to re-engage more deeply with local, genuine community. I joined a choir. I work a demanding but meaningful job in healthcare. I am writing. I am making books. I am engaging with the ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, Movement Voter Project, and thinking about how I can help oppose this malicious, ignorant administration and the evisceration of our federal government.
for the time being, I'm regularly engaging on BlueSky, as it seems to be helping me right now. hope to see you there if you BlueSky—@poebot.
